Sonnie Badu is trending and it’s not for good reasons.
The gospel singer, so-called Man of God and certified Lion has slammed Ghanaians as frogs over some questions raised about the authenticity of his numerous academic honours he’s always flaunting online.
Badu loves flaunting his so-called degrees and honours every three seconds. Ghanaians allowed him to do whatever he wanted until he recently claimed that he earned 3 degrees – a degree, a masters and a doctorate in 4 months.
At that point our intelligence was being insulted too much and a social media user conducted an extensive investigation exposing Sonnie Badu as a fraud. None of his degrees were remotely academic and were just honorary.
However, Badu styles himself as Dr, Dean, Professor and numerous other academic titles he is not qualified to hold. Having a honorary degree doesn’t make you a Dr, dean, professor or whatever other big words he pushes on himself.
One of the many honours Badu confers on himself is to claim that he is a UN ambassador.
He claims to be a UN Ambassador CDSE (Commander of most Distinguished Order of Special Envoy expert in the field of sacred music).
That is not something that exists.
According to checks by myjoyonline, carried out when the issue first came out, Badu hasn’t received any UN ambassadorial appointment. His own school wrote to myjoyonline to clarify that they conferred it on him and not the U.N.
The Word of Life Christian Fellowship, which conferred the honour on him, said they have a consultative status with the UN which allows them to confer UN honours on their ambassadors, but the honour is not from the U.N.
“Perhaps the media reported that Dr. Badu was given this award by the United Nations which was incorrect; it was given by Word of Life Christian Fellowship, a UN accredited NGO, and we also appointed him as one of our Distinguish Ambassadors At-Large and to the UN office in Geneva.” the letter said.
Badu holds himself as a U.N ambassador with no appointment from the UN, and claims to be a Dr with no legitimate PhD. He loves fake honours and if you dare talk, apparently, you’re a frog.
