The Director-General of the CID, COP Ken Yeboah, stated that the police officer allegedly killed a taxi driver, Samuel Tawiah, 46, with his service rifle during the robbery.
The police officer and his accomplices have been charged, prosecuted, and remanded into police custody after they were arrested on September 14.
Addressing the press, the COP said, “The policeman and his accomplice were offering a Nissan Versa taxi for sale in Cape Coast when they were arrested.
“When the Lance Corporal got to the spot, he directed the taxi driver to stop the vehicle, and then he shot him twice as the driver was sitting behind the steering wheel.” The COP added.
“Ebenezer then emerged from his hideout, pulled the deceased taxi driver and the policeman shot him again to ensure he had died. They left him in the bush,” the COP boss continued.
Both suspects then traveled to the central region to sell the taxi to the third accomplice for GHS8,000.
