People tend to be scared of getting old, the fear of aging is the one that sticks with us and we often try to find all sorts of different ways to stop the aging.
Did you know that food might be a culprit in making us look older?
Foods that make us look older than our age are (advanced glycation end products) also known as AGE’s.
AGE’s are one of the main culprits that accelerate the aging process of our skin, and they form when protein or fat combine with sugar.
We bring this up because the food you are about reading about contains some sort of (advanced glycation end-products).
1. French Fries(Potato chips)
This food might be one of the most loved universal side dishes. French fries and most fried food has some properties in them that make your skin age faster because foods fried in oil releases free radicals that can cause cellular damage to your skin. Exposure to free radicals accelerates, also the salt from the fries might lessen your skin elasticity as well.
Instead of eating chips, replace it with sweet potatoes, don’t fry but bake or boil them. This food makes you look younger because they are rich in anti-aging copper which makes your skin looks fresh.
2. White bread.
Not only that is not good for you but it might make you look older as well. The components in the refining process of white bread create AGE’s, essentially when the refined carbs miss with the protein, you will get advanced glycation end products.
Also, as some scientists put it, food like white bread can cause inflammation in the body which is directly linked to the aging process. Rather replace them with Whole Wheat Bread, these are good for your skin. Wheat bread also contains antioxidants that are beneficial to the skin.
3. White sugar.
Everybody loves sugar especially sugar in sweets, pastries, drinks. It gives you unwanted blemishes like acne(pimples), it also makes you look older. Once our sugar level is elevated, the AGE’s process is stimulated and it gets worse when sunlight is involved. Instead of taking ice-cream take frozen yogurt. Replace it with honey or fruit.
Margarine and butter are not the same things. The world-renowned Harvard Medical school discovered that margarine is worse than a moderate amount of real butter due to the fact that it’s high in partially hydrogenated oils. The fatty acids in margarine make the skin more vulnerable which can cause damage to your skin. Instead, replace it with olive oil or avocado because they are rich in anti-aging and antioxidant.
5. Processed meat.
There is nothing better than a barbecue, or beef suya but they are bad for our health because they are high in sodium, saturated fats, and sulfite which can all dehydrate the skin and weaken collagen by causing inflammation. Instead, replace it with turkey barbecue or chicken suya because they are packed with protein and amino acids that are essential in the natural formation of collagen.
If you are a vegetarian, try some eggs or beans.
Dairy foods are foods like cheese and milk, instead of these replace it with seeds, almonds, groundnut, walnuts, coconuts, beans, vegetables and figs, and anything that is a source of calcium. This is because if you lose dairy, you lose one of the most essential vitamins.
