The President on the 14th June directed all schools to be reopened effectively today. Final year students of universities and Senior High Schools are expected to start school activities today and the Junior high schools and the rest of the form two batches in the subsequent weeks.
However, the lessons learnt from other countries such as South Korea and Germany will lead to the closure of schools again. These countries closed the schools fews days after reopening after various cases of corona virus were detected in the schools.
It is highly possible the news will not be different in Ghana. Why the government is insisting on schools to be reopened when the cases are not reducing is worrying. The death rate in the country might be low but that does not mean an increase in the cases won’t put others at risk.
Hospitals are lacking basic PPEs, the focus should be on that instead instead of wasting on the reopening of schools.
The opposition are insisting on testing the students before allowing them to school but the government says it will be too expensive.
