English is a widely spoken language, your sport news, favourite TV shows are casted or aired in English and even this article is written in English. However, since English Language is not our mother tongue, we as Nigerians, tend to make mistakes most times and here are some of the mistakes we make everyday as we communicate in English language.
1. “First Come, First Serve”
This is a quite common mistake that is used in queues. The correct statement should be “First Come, First Served”, Notice the “d” in “served”
2. “Worse Comes To Worse”
The correct statement to make is “Worse Comes To Worst”, Because It shows that something has degraded to the least possible.
3. “Me And Janet Went To The Bank Yesterday”
The correct statement should be “Janet and I went to the bank yesterday.
4. “I Saw Your Missed Call”
The correct statement is “I missed your call”.
5. “This is the Man THAT stole my shoes”
The correct should be “This is the Man WHO stole my shoes.” Whenever you are referring to other people use WHO, not THAT.
