Coronavirus cases in Ghana and Greater Accra is at it peak. The rate at which coronavirus is spreading in Greater Accra region is very alarming.
Ever since Ghana recorded and confirm it first patient on 12/03/2020, it been increasing day-in and day-out. It gets to a point in the early stage of the fight against the virus that, the President needed to impose lockdown in Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and some part of Central region which is Kasoa.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah put the above-mentioned area under lockdown, the reason was to help contain the spreading of the virus. These areas went lockdown for straight two weeks and then another one week making it three weeks lockdown period.
It was during the Lockdown that, the health personnel’s conduct more test. They trace person who come in contact with the first infected person’s and test them as well after which they commence treating the positive ones.
Before the lockdown the president make it clears that, it’s not locking down alone will stop the coronavirus but also the washing of hands with soap under running water or sanitize your hand with hand sanitizer in the absence of running water and soap, wearing of nose mask, social distancing, avoid touching objects and avoid touching your face.
On the third week the president lift the lockdown to allow people to go about their normal business but with precautions. The precautions are nothing new but just a reminder and enforcement. President asks people to wear nose mask whenever they are going out, wash your hands immediately you get to your destination and wash you hands immediately you return home, people should observe social distancing and stay home if you don’t have anything important doing in town.
After the lockdown was lifted, more people were not observing the social distancing as instructed by the president, people were seeing going to market
place without wearing nose mask, some too do not remember to wash or do not get water to wash their hands upon reaching their destination.
The president said it in his address, the day he lift the lockdown that, he will impose the lockdown again and if possible curfew in areas that the people do not observe the lay down precautions and making the virus spreading. Some people are doubting Thomas and do not believe the virus is real.
As at today the confirm cases is 2719, 294 recoveries, 18 deaths. Greater Accra alone has recorded 2332 cases, Greater Kumasi 124, Eastern Region 94, Central Region 38, Volta Region 30, Western Region 21, Oti Region 23, Upper East Region 19, Upper West Region 19, Northern Region 13, Western North Region 4, North East Region 2, Bono East Region 0, Savanna Region 0, Bono Region 0, Ahafo Region 0.
The confirm cases on the day lockdown was lifted was little above one thousand ( 1042 ). The figure has double in two weeks from lockdown.
Looking at the data in hand and the rate at which the Covid-19 is spreading”, the President might tempt to lockdown Greater Accra again for the second time.
