The Sunyani Technical University (STU) in the Bono Region is one of the recent technical universities to have graduated 1,554 students at its 12th congregation this year.
Graduating students’ same year of completion has always been a challenge for most technical universities since their accreditation body National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) plays a major rule.
The National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) is one of three bodies with the mandate to regulate the tertiary education sector. Reconstituted in 2004, eleven years after its inauguration, NABPTEX ensures that final certificates and diplomas are awarded on merit so that the right calibre of students pass out of the non-university tertiary institutions, professional bodies and private institutions.
In the case of KTU, with approximately four days to its 16th Congregation which falls on the 29th February 2020, a date sighted in the Revised Academic Calendar for 2019/2020 Academic Year, is unclear if this ceremony will see the day of light. History has it that, few weeks to such events, Graduands and the General Public are informed of the award of Degree and Diploma to persons who completed their programmes of study and Graduands who wish to be present at the Congregation are made to register and pay a congregation fee.
With the current date scheduled for the congregation sighted in the revised academic calendar, it will be impossible for all those activities mentioned about to take place before 29th February 2020. We believe a new date might be communicated very soon by the university.
We will keep you updated as and when there is any new development.
