As a snack, Cereal, or light meal, garri can be soaked in cold water (in which case it settles to the bottom), mixed with sugar or honey, and sometimes roasted. Peanuts or groundnut with/or evaporated milk are sometimes added.
A medical doctor according to a report from legit Naija has cautioned the general public to desist from eating gari soakings.
Gari soakings is a Ghanaian/ Nigerian type of delicacy which is normally cheap to afford. Most people refer to Gari soakings as the savior because it is mostly what people rely on in difficult times. It Isa mixture of Gari, water, sugar and sometimes milk. That is if one had the means to add milk to it.
According to Doctor Boniface Okolo, who is the Director of Public Health at Enugu State, eating of gari can poise harm to the body. He explained that a person can easily contract a disease called Lassa fever from eating gari. This is because, rodents like Mice or rats gets into contact with gari, contaminating it at the end.
Doctor Boniface Okolo is therefore urging everyone to stay away from gari since the bacteria released into it by these rodents can’t be easily killed or destroyed by pouring hot water on it.
